Activists in the United States are collecting signatures to a petition calling on the US President Administration to expedite the release of Ukrainian political prisoner Oleg Sentsov.

The petition is published on the website of the White House.

So, if by September 8 this appeal will be supported by 100 thousand people, then the White House Administration will be obliged to make an official statement on the Ukrainian political prisoner.

“European parliament has already appealed to Vladimir Putin for immediate liberation of Oleg Sentsov and others. Now it is time for America to speak up. We urge our government to take a firm stance on this issue and use all leverage to demand immediate release of Oleg Sentsov and other Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia," reads the text of the petition.

At the moment, the petition was signed by 32 thousand people out of the required 100 thousand. It is possible to support the Ukrainian policeman from any country of the world.

Earlier, the US State Department called on the Russian Federation to immediately release Oleg Sentsov. Press secretary of the State Department Heather Nauert said that the US authorities are concerned about the health of the Ukrainian film-maker.

First Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Irina Gerashchenko said that health of the Ukrainian political prisoners Oleg Sentsov and Volodymyr Balukh had deteriorated. Gerashchenko noted that the Kremlin is not interested in addressing the issue of political prisoners.
