The trial of Ahtem Chiygoz, Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatars, as well as Ali Asanov and Mustafa Degermendzhy, activists of the Crimean Tatar National Movement, has begun at the Supreme Court of Crimea in Simferopol.

“The defendants were brought to the court room. Parents and children of the accused are not allowed to be present. Their wives are crying, and people are chanting: Let parents and children in! People are standing in a corridor. There is a conflict, everyone screams. The police came and asked everybody to step back. The father of the defendant shouted, ‘My son is on trial and I am here? Let me pass!’ Bailiff says that no one will be let in, and those who are allowed are already in the court room. However, they let pass the ‘victims’ who even were provided with additional seats in the courtroom,” the witnesses of the hearing report.

Just a reminder: On January 29, 2015, Ahtem Chiygoz was illegally detained in the framework of the case ‘February 26.’ He was separated from his family, friends and the people, and has been behind bars for almost a year. Despite the interrogations, searches and imprisonment, Ahtem aga shows all of us iron self-control, dignity and courage.
