In 2017 the Crimean beach "Massandrovskiy", located in the occupied Yalta, entered the top. Russian media report on "pride" of the fact that the allegedly Russian beach received an award, however, the site of the organization clearly stated that the beach is Ukrainian.
Apart from Spain, the top three included Greece (485 beaches) and France (390 beaches). In the top 10 in order of decreasing also hit Turkey, Italy, Portugal, Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany and Croatia. Total awards were given to beaches from 45 countries.
The Blue Flag is an international award, annually granted by the non-profit organization Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The first such prize was awarded in France in 1985. "Blue Flag" award is granted to ecologically clean beaches, where all safety standards are observed and high quality of water is guaranteed. In total, this award has marked about four thousand coastal zones in 45 countries around the world.
