On July 23, a delegation of the US Department of State led by United States Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker was in the combat area, the press center of the ATO (antiterrorist operation) headquarters reports.
The US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, officials of the US Department of State and the US Embassy in Ukraine, representatives of the Presidential Administration and local officials drove along the demarcation line. The guests visited the headquarters of the operational-tactical group "Donetsk" and the front-line Avdiivka, where they had a meeting with the military, representatives of the military and civil administration and the affected residents of the city.
“Our main task is to restore the integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. As I understand, it is not a frozen conflict, but it is a hot war. And the price is dangerously high as it is human lives”, US Special Representative for Ukraine said.
On visiting Avdiivka Kurt Volker said that he had heard the tragedy of people and had seen the destruction.
“I came here personally to get acquainted with the details of these events. I can say that it is a terrible tragedy, because we know that Ukraine is a flourishing state”, Kurt Volker said.
After visiting Ukraine he plans to have a series of meetings with representatives of European governments in order to consolidate the position on the situation in the ATO zone with the allies, according to Kurt Volker.
Reportedly, it is the second visit of Kurt Volker to Ukraine for a month. Along with United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson he visited Kyiv on July 9, 2017.
Earlier, the US Department of State appointed the former US Ambassador to NATO Kurt Volker as the Special Representative for Ukraine.
