The Ukrainian Defense Ministry was quick to release a statement refuting the allegation. It says in the statement that the commemorative badge bears an image of a T-72 tank and a machine gun used by Ukrainian troops. According to the statement, other images the badge bears, such as Ukrainian state symbols, a national flag, an embroidered towel and the Ministry’s sign, make it authentically Ukrainian.

“The badge bears a collective image of a fearless warrior and defender of his homeland. It also features a T-72 tank with its easily recognizable features, such as rollers, caterpillars, a hull and a 125 mm cannon. It is common knowledge that the T-72 tank is in service with the Ukrainian Armed Forces. There is a Special Forces soldier standing next to the tank wearing a Ukrainian uniform and holding a machine gun used by Ukrainian Special Forces and reconnaissance units,” says the statement.
