Initially it was reported that the plane crashed with EU officials on board at the airport in Luqa (Malta), according to Reuters post on Twitter, citing the sources at the airport.

Preliminary reports indicate that five people have been killed in the plane crash.

However, according to the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini’s Twitter page, there were no representatives of the European Union on board of the light airplane crashed in Malta.

According to local media reports, the plane crashed next to the runway shortly after taking off, and then burst into flames.
