The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that the meeting was held after almost a year break, for the last summit was held in October 2015.

According to him, the real result of this event is the fact of the meeting itself, because Russia consistently refused to continue the discussion in this format, deliberately raising the stakes. Holding the summit just before the meeting of the European Council was quite important as well, since the format of EU relations with Russia is currently discussed.

“Thus, holding the Normandy summit was necessary for these discussions, it helped to draw a clear line on solidarity and consolidation of the European Union supporting Ukraine in standing up to Russian aggression as well as on the issue of the sanctions extension,”  the minister said.

Another important result of the Normandy summit was its continued work in the format of a roadmap, which aims to create a safe space in Donbas. According to Klimkin, Germany and France supported the implementation of the road map plan.
