All border checkpoints on the border with the Russian Federation have been equipped with a biometric control system, the Head of State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Petro Tsyhykal reported, as cited by the press service ofthe department. 

“As of today, all checkpoints on the border with Russia are equipped with a system of biometric control, the rest of checkpoints to be equipped during the next year, including local ones,” the press office said.

He noted that the recording of biometric data on the Russian-Ukrainian border and at international airports was scheduled to begin on January 1, 2018.

Later, the further equiping of the other border checkpoints in Ukraine with the system of biometric control is also expected.

It is worth noting, that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko confirmed that the checking of biometric data at the borders of Ukraine would begin as early as January 1, 2018.

Earlier, July 10, the Head of the National Security and Defense Council, Oleksandr Turchynov, announced that no later than January 1, 2018, Ukraine would introduce biometric control on the border, primarily for Russian citizens who would enter Ukrainian territory.

Turchynov explained that such actions were connected with the need to strengthen the state security of Ukraine. Electronic registration system for Russians can start working ahead of schedule, if the corresponding infrastructure is ready.
