Russia will return the occupied territories of Ukraine, being in a state of economic despair and at risk of disintegration, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov told in an interview with "Obozrevatel".

People's Deputy noted that in the case of Russian economic decline, the world will be able to make the occupant-state return the annexed Crimea. This is possible if the anti-Russian sanctions are enhanced.

He still rules out a military option to return the Ukrainian territory.

“Without bringing Russia to the state of economic despair there is almost no chance. The military option is out of the question. Russia must face the threat of disintegration. It may start due to total economic decline. Today's sanctions are sufficient to deter Russia from further aggression. But they are hardly enough to make it return to the framework of international law, to withdraw from the occupied territory of Ukraine. If tomorrow Russia faces the threat of disintegration, they will be forced to ask the world for help, and then the world will set its own rules.”

Earlier, February 14 Press-secretary of the White House Sean Spicer informed that President Donald Trump made it clear that he expects active participation of Moscow in the de-escalation of the conflict in Donbas and returning of Crimea, which was occupied during President Barack Obama's administration.

The White House confirmed the United States position in the UN, implying that sanctions against Russia imposed for the occupation of Crimea, will remain until the return of control over the peninsula to Ukraine.

Western countries do not recognize the Russian annexation of the Crimea and regularly extend economic sanctions against RF.
