Delegation of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people paid official visit to Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan on April 25-28.

The delegation included members of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people, Crimean vice-Premier Lenur Islyamov and head of the republican committee for nationalities and deported citizens Zaur Smirnov.

The delegation asked Tatarstan authorities to arrange a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“At all the meetings we participated and in all the interviews we gave we emphasized that we seek meeting with Mr.Putin. We stressed if they (Tatarstan authorities,-ed.) want to help us they should arrange that meeting”- deputy head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Nariman Jelal said.

“We are not fishing for meeting, we are taking first step. It should be Kremlin initiative to meet”- he added.

According to Mr. Jelal the meeting aimed for protection of rights of Crimean Tatars.

“We should discuss the most actual and painful issues. All the decisions regarding Crimea are made on the top level. If we want to influence on these decisions we should negotiate with those who are making them”- he noted.

Meanwhile Crimean Tatar leader Mustafa Jemilev stands against the meeting of Crimean Tatars with Russian President.
