Answering the question by a reader of Parlamentni listy edition, Czech President Milos Zeman said he believes that, despite Russia’s annexation of the Crimea, it cannot be returned to Ukraine.

The Head of the Czech Republic is convinced that the annexation violates the international law and the territorial integrity of Ukraine, but still he does not believe that Russia should return the peninsula.

On the other hand, I agree that Khrushchev made an unforgivable stupidity (having transferred Crimea to Ukraine - Ed.), and today the world's politicians recognize that the Crimea cannot be returned to Ukraine, said Zeman.

Zeman has repeatedly expressed support for Russia and keeps adhering to the Kremlin. He has always advocated the lifting of sanctions against Russia, in contrast to the position of the Czech government that holds by the all-European line that is to keep the sanctions.

Russia occupied Crimea in February-March 2014, saying the rigged referendum as of March 16 was the Crimean people’s wish to join the Russian Federation. Most of the world has not recognized the Crimea as part of Russia. For Ukraine, the Crimea still remains the temporarily occupied territory.
