The visit of the Ukrainian delegation headed by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to Turkey took place on November 3-4.

During the visit, a meeting between the Ukrainian and Turkish leaders Petro Poroshenko and Recep Tayyip Erdogan was held.

The parties, in particular, agreed to continue the coordination of the actions to liberate the Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia and the annexed Crimea.

Erdogan noted that he had handed over a list of 90 political prisoners of Ukraine for exchange to the Russian side.

“Earlier, two political prisoners were extradited to us, after which they were released. This time we got a bigger list, which was immediately handed over to the Russian side. We will follow this process and I hope for successful solutions," said the Turkish Head of state.

The Ukrainian and Turkish Heads took part in the 7th meeting of the High-level Strategic Council between the Republic of Turkey and Ukraine.

During the meeting, the parties announced their intention to sign a free trade agreement by the end of 2018.

According to Poroshenko, with the signing of the agreement, the growth of trade turnover between the two states is expected to reach 10 billion dollars a year.

According to him, the growth of trade turnover and investment between the countries has already increased by 20%, as well as the flow of Ukrainian tourists to Turkey.

Moreover, the First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv and the Chairman of the Office of the Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination Serdar Cham signed an Agreement on Cooperation between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Turkey in development sphere.

It is aimed at establishing a Program Coordination Office in Ukraine. It is expected that special attention will be paid to projects for the development of educational infrastructure, social services, agriculture, tourism and manufacturing sectors.

The parties also signed a memorandum between the Ukrainian State Concern of the Defense Industrial Complex Ukroboronprom and the State Agency for Defense Industry of the Republic of Turkey for the implementation of projects in the field of defense industry.

Petro Poroshenko visited production of Baykar Makina, one of the world leaders in the production of powerful unmanned aerial systems.

In Istanbul, the Ukrainian President signed an agreement with the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to establish an independent Ukrainian Church.

“The agreement we signed today creates all the conditions for the process of preparing for the Council, the process of granting Tomos was brought into absolutely clear correspondence with the canons of the Orthodox Church,” Poroshenko said.

Poroshenko took part in the opening of the Consulate of Ukraine in Antalya. The Head of State noted that more than 1.3 million Ukrainians visit Turkey every year, more than 800 thousand of them come in Antalya. At the opening ceremony of the consulate the Ukrainian Head of State was joined by the Presidential Commissioner for Affairs of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin, Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey Andriy Sybiha.

Earlier on air of the Hayat Radio, Head of the board of the International Union of Businessmen of Ukraine and Turkey Burak Pekhlivan said that talks on the Free Trade Area (FTA) may end in autumn this year. He noted that many Turkish factories are transferring their production to other countries and, in the long run, can transfer it to Ukraine.
