Top-news on February 12 in Ukraine was the detention of the leader of the faction "Movement of New Forces" (Rukh Novyh Syl), former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili in Kyiv.

The security forces acted on the worked-out scenario providing for detention of the politician in an unexpected place and in an unexpected time. On February 9, such an operation failed. Then the SBU "Alpha" squad was not allowed to the Fairmont Grand Hotel Kyiv by the security of the hotel. On February 12, the border guards decided to detain Saakashvili in the restaurant "Suluguni", where the politician dined.

The video shot on the phone shows that people in camouflage shouting in the restaurant: "Lie down" and using a swearing against the detainee.

Soon, supporters of Saakashvili informed that the politician was being taken to the airport Boryspil.

David Sakvarelidze, the ally of Saakashvili, on his Facebook page urged people to go to Boryspil airport.

Soon, activists of the "Movement of the New Forces" reported that they were forming blockades to prevent the deportation of their leader to another country.

According to their information, Saakashvili could be deported from the country from Zhulyany or Boryspil airports, but they also alleged that he could be taken out of Kyiv by road.

The Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko said that after Mikheil Saakashvili was denied a political asylum, the authorities of Ukraine might deport him to the Netherlands, Georgia or Poland.

At the same time, the Prosecutor General noted that extradition of Saakashvili to Georgia certainty means his arrest.

Reportedly, on February 18, supporters of Saakashvili intend to hold a rally, to which they invited President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to come and declare his resignation.

Speaker of the Border Guard Service of Ukraine Oleh Slobodyan informed on his Facebook page that the leader of the "Movement of New Forces" Mikheil Saakashvili was deported to Poland.

According to him, the politician was in the territory of Ukraine illegally, and therefore, "with observance of all legal formalities was returned to the country from where he arrived, violating the domestic legislation."

“On February 12, servicemen of the State Border Service together with representatives of the Migration Service and the National Police applied the decision of the competent authority against Saakashvili on his return to the country of his previous stay. However, during the procedure, unknown persons from the environment of Mikhail Saakashvili attacked law enforcement officials. The border guards were forced to defend themselves and used force protection," he said, referring to the operation of the security forces in the restaurant where the leader of the "Movement of New Forces" was detained.

Slobodyan noted that on September 22, 2017, the Mostysky Court of the Lviv region found Saakashvili guilty of illegally crossing the Ukrainian border. And in January 2018, the Kyiv District Administrative Court rejected Saakashvili’s claims against the State Migration Service in recognizing him as a refugee.

“On February 6, the District Administrative Court of Kyiv repeatedly rejected M. Saakashvili's complaint against the decision of the Migration Service on refuse to issue documents recognizing him as a refugee or a person who requires additional protection,” the official said.

Following detention and deportation of Mikhail Saakashvili, supporters of the leader of the "Movement of New Forces" in Kyiv protested against the deportation of the politician, the action took place near the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, QHA correspondent reports.

Demonstrators tried to break the cordon of police officers from the side of Institutskaya street. People were chanting: "Resignation". A clash occurred, during which one activist was detained. About 100 people participated in the protest.
