Speaking at the Balkan Security Conference in Istanbul, Recep Tayyip Erdogan made the following statement:

“We hope for concrete results from the NATO summit in Warsaw on July 8. The Black Sea should be turned into the sea of stability. I told the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg that you are absent in the Black Sea and that is why it has nearly become a Russian lake. We should perform our duty as the countries having access to the Black Sea. If we do not take action, history will not forgive us.”

In his speech at a meeting with Balkan countries Chiefs of General Staff, Turkish leader emphasized the importance of coordination and cooperation of NATO member countries in the Black Sea.

Earlier, in his inauguration speech, NATO's new Supreme Allied Commander Europe Skaparotti Curtis - who succeeded Philip Bridlava - confirmed the political policy of strengthening the Alliance's borders with Russia.

It was reported earlier that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko paid a visit to the Republic of Turkey on March 9-10, 2016.  During his visit, he held a number of strategic meetings with top political leadership of Turkey, in particular, with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
