French President Emmanuel Macron, during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia Valery Gerasimov, discussed the conflict in the Donbas, according to the information by the press service of the French President.

Prior to this, Lavrov and Gerasimov met in Berlin with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Head of the German Foreign Ministry, Heiko Maas.
The negotiations with Gerasimov and Lavrov were allegedly initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The meeting was also attended by French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian. The parties discussed the issue of the return of refugees to Syria and the conflict in the east of Ukraine.

Earlier, in German Aachen a meeting was held with the participation of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel. The parties discussed the prospects for the deployment of a peacekeeping mission in Donbas.
