Yesterday, on September 25, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker, during a meeting in New York at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, stressed the need for urgent release of all Ukrainian hostages.

According to the press service of the Ukrainian Head of state, the parties discussed the latest events in Donbas and the prospects of a multinational peacekeeping mission established under UN auspices in the east of Ukraine.

The special attention was paid to cooperation in the field of security and defense between Ukraine and the United States, as well as interaction on the way to further implementation of reforms in Ukraine.

Kurt Volker also informed Poroshenko about the strengthening of sanctions pressure against the Russian Federation, in particular, an imposition of sanctions to 12 more Russian companies.

During the meeting, Kurt Volker presented Poroshenko with a symbolic printed copy of the declaration by the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo dated on July 25, 2018, which recorded the US position regarding the non-recognition of the Russian annexation of Crimea.

The US Special Representative stated that this document is similar "in spirit and letter" to the declaration of 1940 on the Washington non-recognition of the Soviet occupation of the Baltic countries.

Earlier, the US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker said that the United States under no circumstances recognize the forcible seizure of territories.
