The United States supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine and advocates the continuation of reforms in the country, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko stated at a briefing after the meeting with the US Head of state.

“A full-fledged, very detailed meeting with US President Donald Trump was held. We have received strong support from the United States. Support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of our state, and solid support for the continuation of the reforms in Ukraine," he said.

According to Poroshenko, Trump assured him of his commitment to the Minsk agreements.

"We must demand full implementation of the Minsk agreements and a security package from Russia: Ceasefire, withdrawal of Russian artillery, tanks, ramparts, unhindered access of the OSCE to the entire territory, including the border. We discussed in detail what steps should be taken on the eve of President Trump's visit to Europe," the Ukrainian President stressed.

During the meeting, the President of Ukraine handed Donald Trump a letter from relatives of political prisoners who are in custody in the occupied territories and in the Russian Federation and noted that he "received assurances of the efforts that the US Administration will make to help Ukraine return its people home."

Poroshenko went on saying that the issue of military-technical cooperation was considered separately:

“We will discuss these issues now even more in detail with the US Defense Secretary Matisse. But the President [Trump. - Ed.] gave clear instructions for us to expand our cooperation.”

Answering the journalist’s question, whether the meeting discussed the changes in the Minsk format and the involvement of US forces in the resolution of the conflict in the Donbas, Poroshenko said that there is no need to reformat the "Minsk":

"I do not see any need for this. The USA is our partner, we are really interested in involving the USA in an active process.”

He also stressed that the meeting confirmed the importance of Ukraine's independence for the United States as well as determined attitude to support Ukrainian state.

The meeting of the two leaders took place in the Oval Office of the White House. Apart from President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and US President Donald Trump, the meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valeriy Chaly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin, the US Ambassador to Ukraine Mila Jovanovich and the US Vice President Mike Pence.
