Russian actress Elena Koreneva publicly supported the political prisoner Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov, who is serving a 20-year sentence in a penal colony in Yakutsk on a fabricated verdict.
She expressed support to Sentsov in a joint speech with actress Yulia Aug after receiving the "Nika" award for their work in Vladimir Mirzoyev's film "Her name was Mumu".
“Oleg Sentsov is our colleague, a Ukrainian filmmaker who received a Russian citizenship against his will and was sentenced here for twenty years and is serving a sentence in Yakutia ... We can not help, but we need to know how this happens.”
She also mentioned the Russian prisoners Sergei Mokhnatkin and brother of the oppositionist Aleksey Navalny - Oleg Navalny.
Earlier QHA reported that Oleg Sentsov was detained by Russian invaders in the Crimea for an active patriotic position, accused of terrorism and taken to the colony of Yakutsk in the Republic of Sakha, Yakutia. Ukraine has repeatedly appealed to the government bodies of Russia with a demand for extradition and proposals for the exchange of Oleg Sentsov. However, on February 6, 2017, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation issued an official statement according to which the prisoner Oleg Sentsov canl not be transferred to Ukraine because of his Russian citizenship (forcibly imposed on him by the occupying country).
