UN budget has been cut by $ 285 million for 2018-2019, according to the statement of the United States Mission to the United Nations.
“The inefficiency and overspending of the United Nations are well known, we will no longer let the generosity of the American people be taken advantage of or remain unchecked,” Nikki Haley, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations emphasized.
The United States is the number one financial source of UN, providing 22 percent of the core budget.
Washington had earlier mentioned the possible reduction of the UN budget for 2018-2019 for $ 250 million.
Reportedly, President of the United States Donald Trump repeatedly criticized the overall effectiveness of the UN, stressing that the organization does little to respond to the global problems.
Earlier, the UN World Food Program announced a decision to stop providing food and other humanitarian assistance to residents of Ukraine, affected by the conflict in the Donbas due to lack of funding.
