France and Germany welcome the adoption of bill on the special status of the Donbas by the Verkhovna Rada, according to the statements of the embassies of the two countries.

“Germany welcomes today's decision of the Council to extend the provisions on the special status of the Donbass. We reaffirm our commitment to the peaceful resolution of the conflict in the framework of the peace process," reads the statement of the German embassy in Ukraine.

France also supported the adoption of a law by the Ukrainian parliament on extension of the special status of Donbas, as stipulated by the law of September 16, 2014.

“The adoption of this law confirms Ukraine's commitment to a peaceful settlement of the conflict within the framework of the Minsk agreements ... France and Germany continue their mediation efforts within the Normandy format with a view to sustainable conflict resolution”, the French embassy said.

Earlier, the US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker positively commented on the adopted bills.

QHA reported that October 6, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a presidential bill in the first reading on the reintegration of Donbas and extended the special status of the Donbas for a year.
