Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov has already achieved certain results with his hunger strike, the leader of the Crimean Tatar people, the Presidential Commissioner of Ukraine for the Crimean Tatar people Affairs, MP Mustafa Dzhemilev said in the commentary to QHA.

He noted that usually the hunger strikes of political prisoners do not lead to their release, but cause a resonance in the society.

“Political hunger strikes do not lead to results, to liberation. However, those who declare them do not count on this. They just want to contribute to the cause of their liberation, and they succeed. The fact that a lot of information is now in the press around Sentsov and around the illegal repression of the invaders, is already the result. And in this regard we can say Sentsov has achieved certain results," said the leader of the Crimean Tatar people.

Mustafa Dzhemilev called the non-admission of the Ukrainian Ombudsperson to the Kremlin political prisoners as rudeness on the part of the Russian authorities.

“Russia shows its rudeness in all areas. Poroshenko kind of agreed with Putin on the visit of the ombudsperson, but in the Kremlin, as always, they do not keep their word,” Mustafa Dzhemilev stressed.

The leader of the Crimean Tatar people noted that the hunger strikers do not think about health or survival. Therefore, it is useless in this case to persuade to start eating because of the threat to life.

“A person consciously goes on a hunger strike. Such people can be admired and supported. The only support that we can provide is to demonstrate our position and make demands to free Sentsov,” Dzhemilev summarized.

Earlier, the coordinator of the Media Initiative for Human Rights, Maria Tomak, informed QHA that the issue of the release of Oleg Sentsov should be put on the agenda of the summit of US and Russian leaders Trump and Putin.

On July 2, Olimpiysky stadium in Kyiv an action was held dedicated to the political prisoner Oleg Sentsov. The activists unfolded a large banner with the inscription "Oleg Sentsov, Ukraine is with you!" and lit the flares.
