Volodymyr Groysman, Prime Minister of Ukraine congratulated the Crimean Tatars on the 100th anniversary of the First Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar people.

Groysman named Crimean Tatars as brothers and sisters in his congratulation.

“Dear leaders and spiritual guides of the Crimean Tatar people, members of Mejlis, Crimean Tatars in the Crimea and on the mainland Ukraine, brothers and sisters!

On behalf of the government and on my own behalf, I congratulate you on the remarkable date - the 100th anniversary of the First Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar people.

A hundred years ago at the first national meeting of the Crimean Tatars the Crimean People's Republic was proclaimed. Despite the fact that due to the Bolsheviks attack, the Republic did not last a few months, its proclamation is of great importance not only for the Crimean Tatars and Ukraine, but for the whole world.

It was one of the first examples in the world of a democratic system in a Muslim society and the world's first Muslim republic.

Therefore, the First Qurultay shows how ancient democratic traditions are in Ukraine and the Crimea.

Today, like a hundred years ago, the enemy came back to the Crimean land. In the occupied Crimea, Crimean Tatars are subjected to severe harassment and repression. The occupation authorities persecute them, imprison them, fabricate cases, and insidiously kill. Tens of thousands of Crimean Tatars are forced to leave their native land and move to the mainland Ukraine.

The issue of the liberation of the Crimea, the protection of the Crimean Tatars is one of the priorities of our joint work. The government is doing everything possible to protect our compatriots from the invaders, so that the Crimean Tatars again freely lived on their land.

Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars repeatedly overcame difficulties and challenges, demonstrated unity and solidarity, and sought to create decent living conditions. I believe that the next Qurultay will be held on the Crimean land liberated from the invaders," the Head of Government declared in his statement.

Earlier, presentation of a commemorative coin took place in the Museum of Money of the National Bank of Ukraine in honor of the 100th anniversary of the First Qurultay - the national congress of the Crimean Tatar people, held in November 1917.

Reference: The First Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar people was opened on November 26 (December 9 by the new style) in 1917 in the Khan Palace in Bakhchysarai. It proclaimed the creation of the Crimean People's Republic, adopted its Constitution and state symbols, and then declared itself the parliament of the Crimean People's Republic. The government was headed by Noman Çelebicihan.

The Second Qurultay was held already in 1991, two years after the mass return of the Crimean Tatars from the places where they lived after the deportation of 1944.
