Smedlyaev posted to Facebook his view on the features of the Flag Day. The Crimean Tatar national flag was first adopted by the Kurultai (National Congress) of Crimean Tatars in 1917, immediately after the February Revolution in Russia, and gained its second birth June 30, 1991, when the new Kurultai recognized it a national flag.
- Dear friends, I want to remind that June 26 is the Day of the Crimean Tatar National Flag! Our youth, not coaxed by authorities, but loving our religion, our people, our land and our flag has voiced proposals concerning the celebration of the holiday!
I understand that here, in Crimea, the authorities will do everything in order to take down our flag once again, humiliate our nation and deprive us of an opportunity to hold our own mass celebrations. Well, we will act within the bound of the possibility!
While there is time, join the flashmobs and take part in the competitions. Take pictures of your children with our flag and take pictures in the settlements, indicating their traditional historical name!
While the people who are proudly holding their banner are still alive, our nation has a future! Qırım Bizim Vetan! Wrote Zair Smedlyaev.
He also added that on June 26 a political prisoner Emir-Usein Kuku turns 40.
- More than that, June 26, our political prisoner Emir-Usein Kuku turns 40, let's be attentive and congratulate him and his family on his birthday! By the way, attention to our other political prisoners on the other days also won’t go amiss! Wrote Smedlyaev.
The Organizing Committee on Preparation and Holding of Events Dedicated to the Day of the Crimean Tatar National Flag has announced a celebration program: a toponymic flashmob, photo contest, exhibition of patriotic works by Crimean Tatar artists and an intellectual game are to be held on June, 26.
