Extradition of Gulen, the leader of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), which attempted to 'stage' a military coup in Turkey on July, 15 continues to be one of the most pressing issues of today.

Thus, on July, 17 the Turkish Diaspora in the US began an online petition for the extradition of the FETO leader Gulen. The petition has been posted to the official White House web-page and has already received more than 78 thousand signatures.

The petition needs to gain 100 thousand signatures in order to to get the official US government's respond. Therefore, it is necessary to win 22 thousand votes in two weeks.

The text of the petition has been posted with a caption, "I would like our government to stop providing a safe haven to Fethullah Gulen and I want him to be delivered to Turkey".

It was reported earlier that the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey Binali Yildirim reported on a military coup attempt on the night of July, 15-16. A part of the Turkish military claimed responsibility for the events and declared the seizure of power in the country.
By Saturday morning July 16, the Turkish authorities managed to regain control over the situation. The coup was organized by Fethullah Gülen, who is now in the United States. On July, 19 Turkey's Justice Ministry sent a request to the US authorities for his extradition.

Reportedly, 8651 servicemen were involved in the unsuccessful coup attempt of July 15 that constitutes approximately 1.5% of the total number of Turkish Armed Forces.

On the recommendation of the Security Council of 21 July, the Turkish Parliament has introduced a three-month state of emergency.
