Today, October 14, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko took part in the ceremony of bringing the solemn oath of the Kiev military Lyceum named after Ivan Bohun at St. Sophia square of the Ukrainian capital.

Fit Cadets in full dress evoke sincere admiration of Kyiv residents and guests. Following the guard of honor, the oath was read the the present.

The first right to utter the words of solemn oath was entrusted to Alexander Stepanov orphaned lyceum students, for whom  the Lyceum replaced family.

“On this memorable day in front of all the Ukrainian people, parents, all the saints and dear, our holy Ukrainian land ... to the holy Sophia chimes let the voice of our solemn oath to fly like a proud bird across  the the Ukrainian land,” read Stepanov.

Alexander Stepanov said that lyceum students will always be worthy of their glorious ancestors, the Zaporozhye Cossacks, the soldiers of the Second World War as well as the ATO members in eastern Ukraine, and all those who gave their lives for the independence of Ukraine.

“I congratulate you on taking the oath of military Lyceum! Dear lyceum students, dear parents and guests! Your institution is named after Ivan Bohun, the glorious Cossack colonel and colleague to Bogdan Khmelnitsky. Today, you took an oath of allegiance to the Motherland. I believe that each of you will be a good officer. You are the descendants of those heroes who defend our country,” said the Supreme Commander of Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko on taking the oath.

The President noted that two years ago a decree was signed to abandon the tradition of celebrating the main military holiday of Ukrainian independent state on the calendar of the aggressor powers [Russia - ed.] And the new date settled down quickly enough. Because the Day of the defender of Ukraine lies in the history of the feast of the Holy Protection, which was particularly appreciated by our ancestors, the  Cossacks. Its history covers Zaporizhzhya Sich and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.

“October 14 symbolizes the indissoluble unity of those Ukrainians, who did not let the aggressor’s plans realize. Ukraine has never  led the wars of conquest. We have never been the aggressor, but will not give up what is ours. We already have something to meet the uninvited guests. The one who comes to us with the sword come, would perish by the sword!”  Poroshenko said.

The President said that the Russian military aggression, seems to last long enough, so Ukraine should pay enough attention to the further strengthening of the defense power of Ukraine and bring funding of the Armed Forces of Ukraine up to 5% of GDP.

Poroshenko has congratulated all the defenders of the Fatherland, who protect the peace and quiet of Ukraine. He noted that  more than 10 thousand women currently serve in the army, and stressed the great role of volunteers and activists to ensure the combat capability of our army.
