The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) needs to create a commission to investigate the possible deployment of nuclear weapons by Russia in Crimea.

This proposal to PACE was made by the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Affairs of the Crimean Tatar People Mustafa Dzhemilev.

“From the first days of the occupation of the Crimea, Russia began to restore the military base, which was closed in 1994 after the signing of the Budapest Memorandum. As far as we are informed, in August 2016 several nuclear warheads appeared there. Therefore, I proposed to create a commission to inspect the situation in the area of this military base.”

According to Mustafa Dzhemilev, additional sanctions should be imposed on Russia.

Dzhemilev stressed: the deployment of nuclear weapons in the Crimea is a danger not only for Europe, but for the whole world.
Earlier, Mustafa Dzhemilev reported that Russia had turned the occupied Crimea into a military base and deployed six nuclear warheads there.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin told the UN that Russia was militarizing the occupied Crimea to deploy nuclear weapons on the peninsula.
