The leader of terrorists in the so-called "DPR" Aleksandr Zakharchenko announced the transfer of all schools in the "republic" to Russian, according to Depo.Donbass, citing the source controlled by the militants.
“The transfer to Russian as the language of instruction has been gradually completed during three academic years in secondary education institutions of the "Donetsk People's Republic".
The terrorist said that the transfer process began in 2014.
“Then, 50 percent of students were taught in Russian, and it was 88 percent in 2015. At present this figure has reached one hundred percent”.
According to the militant, they are giving much attention to the Russian language in "DPR".
“The authorities of the republic have focused on the development of Russian culture. In particular, they made a decision to increase the school hours for studying language and literature and managed training for teachers of Russian and literature”.
Earlier, in March, at a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the International Organizations in Vienna, Igor Prokopchuk noted that the language rights of Ukrainian citizens are systematically violated in the Crimea and ORDLO, territories temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation.
Ukrainian schools were closed and forced transfer of students to the Russian as the language of instruction was carried out in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions over the last three years. Due to the enforced Russification there are no Ukrainian schools and schools with Ukrainian classes in these areas. Ukrainian language was displaced also from all spheres of life: office work, production, media, advertising, etc.
He stressed the inadmissibility of such a situation and called on the OSCE to monitor the violation of the linguistic rights of Ukrainian and other ethnic groups in areas beyond the control of the government. Igor Prokopchuk stated:
”The Russian Federation is directly responsible for the violation of linguistic and other national minorities’ rights in the Ukraine regions illegally occupied by Russia. These people feel defenseless, as the Russian occupation authorities prohibit the access of relevant international organizations for the constant human rights monitoring".
Earlier QHA reported that the court granted the Ukrainian Security Service access to mobile talks of the leader of the so-called "DPR" illegal formation Aleksandr Zakharchenko from March 1, 2014 to the present day.
