A citizen of the Russian Federation, a native of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), who illegally stayed on the territory of Ukraine, and in 2014 fought siding with militants in the Donbas, voluntarily surrendered to the Ukrainian police in the town of Chasov Yar.

The police communications department of Donetsk region reported that a fake Ukrainian passport was seized from the Russian citizen. According to law enforcers, a 24-year-old man said that in 2014 he was in illegal armed formations in the territory of Bakhmut district.

“It turned out that he is a citizen of the Russian Federation, he came to Ukraine in 2006. In June 2014, joined the ranks of militants,” a statement said.

According to the police, the man with weapons in his hands was serving at a checkpoint near the village of Grigorievka, and also patrolled the city of Chasov Yar.

After the liberation of the Bakhmut district by Ukrainian troops, he was hiding for four years in Russia, in the annexed Crimea and in various regions of Ukraine, and the other day returned to Chasov Yar.

“Having learned about a program "Come back home," which gives a chance to get rid of criminal responsibility, the former militant voluntarily came to the police," the report said.

On the fact of participation in illegal armed formations, criminal proceedings were opened under Part 2 of Article 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (the creation of paramilitary or armed groups not provided by law). Currently, the suspect is checked for involvement in the commission of other crimes on the territory of Ukraine.

Earlier it was reported that near the village of Sakhanka, the terrorist of the "DPR" in a state of intoxication stopped his car near the observers of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission and began shouting gross insults at them.
