12 members of the expedition will upgrade the station and make the research work in order to improve communication between Ukraine and "Vernadsky Research Base." Expedition leader Nikolai Starinetz will spend his eights winter at the station, reported BBC.

For the first time the Ukrainian expedition heads for Antarctica jointly with the Turkish scientists. Together, they will conduct the research works at the station during the departure of the previous 20th Ukrainian Expedition.

"Vernadsky Research Base" was founded by the British expedition in 1930 on the Galindez island off the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. Later, it was called "Faraday." In 1996, Great Britain handed it Ukraine, and the station was renamed into "Vernadsky Research Base."
