Illegal armed formations in certain districts of the Donetsk region violated the "school" ceasefire in the Donbas, introduced by the Tripartite Contact Group, just as it began from midnight on August 25, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry reports with reference to the Ukrainian side of the Joint Center for Coordination and Control (JCCC).
“According to the Ukrainian side of the JCCC, already in the second minute of the introduced "school" cease-fire, the militants fired at the positions of the ATO forces in the Talakivka settlement area from the small arms and large-caliber machine guns. From 00.30 to 00.45 a.m. on August 25, the illegal armed formations of the ORDO shelled the houses of civilians in Zaitsevo settlement, thus violating the regime of silence the second time. Fortunately, none of the local residents suffered,” the report said.
At the same time, the Ukrainian side of the JCCC notes that the units of the anti-terrorist operation forces, adhering to the Minsk agreements, maintain the introduced "school" ceasefire along the whole line of demarcation from 00.00 on August 25. The armed forces of Ukraine did not yield to the provocation, and did not return fire, the report specified.
JCCC consider such actions by militants as gross violations of the Minsk agreements on the settlement of the situation in the East of Ukraine.
In addition, according to Aleksandr Motuzyanik, the Speaker of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on ATO issues, on Thursday, August 24, four Ukrainian servicemen were wounded by illegal armed formations in the East of Ukraine, one of them died in a medical facility on Friday night.
Previously, on August 23, the contact group on Ukraine agreed in Minsk on the terms of another truce timed to the start of the new academic year.
