According to Viktoras Pranckietis, Lithuania sees no ways for significant changes in relations with Russia until the RF’s position changes.

“We have trade relations, diplomatic relations are being realized, we have neither the opportunity nor the desire to give up values. As the President stated, everything would remain at the standstill without changes in Russia’s position or the position of the authorities,” Pranckietis stated.

Pranzketis expressed the opinion that these two assessments do not contradict each other commenting on the statements of Dalia Grybauskaite, the Head of Lithuania and Saulius Skvernelis, the Prime Minister on the possibility of establishing contacts with the Russian authorities.

“I think there is an opportunity, the prime minister mentions the level of deputy ministers, so some kind of change in government may happen in this sphere ... Economic goals, but how exactly they arise in relations with states is already a matter of our self-determination,” Prackietis informed.

It is worth noting that, the Prime Minister of Lithuania Saulius Skvernelis stated  the expediency of establishing contacts with representatives of the Russian government this year. At the same time, he stressed that the restoration of ties should be approached pragmatically. In turn, President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite stated at the end of December that with a change in the geopolitical situation, Lithuania should also be ready to change its stance towards Russia, but not abandoning European values. According to Grybauskaite, changes are possible only if Moscow abandons the occupied territories in Ukraine, aggressive policy in Eastern Europe and interferes in democratic elections.

Earlier, the Lithuanian government passed a resolution on the donation of weapons to Ukraine by almost 2 million euros.
